No Means No

No Means No

“Those who give up their essential liberty to obtain
relative safety, deserve neither liberty or safety.”
--Benjamin Franklin.

Today Trump is our President.
Most say he has stolen our liberty.

Perhaps anyone can become President.
Beware if they put their hands on our liberty.

The Donald is completely bent.
He’s quite willing to hijack our liberty.

He’s unable to stop himself.
He covets the treasure of our liberty.

The Oval Office has a filthy dent.
He greedily would hijack our liberty.

To most of us it is evident.
We should stop him with our liberty.

He just doesn’t get the hint.
He’s too busy reaching for our liberty.

Poor immigrants and the indigent.
He devours their promised liberty.

President for Life, he feels omnipotent.
Smile as you deliver up your liberty.

Alas, truly, I see him as impotent.
No means no, asshole.

Well let us see who will run against him in 2020... or if he manages to end the constitution before that.

I love how you break the refrain in the final couplet — the last word captures it all in its urgency and irritation.
I do not want to boast but we have already reelected a tyrant in this part of the world. Ha!

I like the repetition of liberty as if its valuable and something to fight for. That we are allowing him to hijack the liberty is saddest of all. President for Life, what a nightmare that would be.

Ah, there's no escape from what, not only our country but it seems the entire planet, is having to endure. Misery for many at the hands of a few!

It's been a long time since I've read your work. I am happy to do so again. You took up this poem form with gusto! Read HA's comments that I wrote. In large part they apply to your poem as well. Certainly the betrayal of the love we give our country is truly a love's labor lost, and you name it here in all its hideousness.

Happy to read you again. I've missed our conversations and hope you are well and continuing your movie scripts!

Glenn, you picked an apt topic to throw your passion at.

I love when you cut the orange asshat down - keep shreddin’ dude! I laughed out loud when I rolled into your last line. Startled my poor wife, as it was quiet in the house at the time. Funny bro!

I agree with Rob, and the others. I still can't believe he's president, and it gets worse and scarier every day.

Ha, love this Glenn and I like the break from the form in the last couplet...nothing like straightforward invective! JIM

I love the break away from the refrain in the last line! The sudden contrast really packs a punch.

Love how you have made liberty a tangible object in this piece. As a Canadian, I have no say in US elections, but we've certainly felt the negative impact of POTUS's words and actions (not that our current Prime Minister is much better)...so here's hoping for better results for both of our countries in upcoming elections!

A modern day Ghazal written on a timely subject. Each day, when something new pops up regarding his complete stupidity, I am amazed.
