It's Not A Dream

Painting by George Chinnery

It's Not A Dream

time stood still
as synchronicity played it's joke
she dreamed this dream just last night
walking through the alley and there he was
same walk, same walls, same trash cans
by the back door in her dream
she vaguely recalls wondering
why in the world is she in this alley?
She doesn't recognize this place
and at that very moment,
the bells in the church start their chimes,
an hour early because someone forgot
to change the time
It's all so surreal
He stands in the doorway
of the gray sided building
staring at her, not speaking
It looks like him...is it?
The reality stabs, as she releases
the catch in her throat
and her heart finds it's beat
She stops and stares;
he slowly backs into the doorway,
swinging it shut as his eyes bore into hers.
Follow me back into your dream,
he seems to be saying
She glances at her watch, 11:11
11 minutes lost.
She stares at the closed door,
and wonders if she is brave enough to knock.
