Monkey King

Painting by Douglas Nhung

Monkey King

Monkey King in your temple of gold.
I saw you in Nikko,
Wearing your beautiful fur coat,
Lined with royal blue tapestry.
You wore baubles and beads,
To denote your rank.

You were lord of your gang,
Bullybang, you sat by the road,
Waved hello, and goodbye,
And as I left your town,
You were the last one I saw,
Up in a bare winter's tree.
