Mickahistoria

Mick:

Your enthusiasm and knowledge seems inexhaustable. Christ, man, you are making me have to reach so far back into my cob-webbed cortex that my ears are flapping.

On SGT. BILKO, kudos sir, you scored 95% accuracy, nailing Ernie, Dick Van Dyke, Neil Simon, Harvey Lembeck and Paul Ford; but you screwed the pooch on Clint Eastwood. He never appeared on the show, but his pal, Eric Fleming did. Do you remember the actor's name that played Pvt. Doberman? He never did much else after that. Do you remember Tom Poston, Ned Glass and Larry Storch on the show? I think the actor you could not quite recall that later was on the Munsters was Al Lewis, and yes Joe E. Ross did Tooty and Muldoon, with Fred Gywenn on CAR 54, WHERE ARE YOU?

Now as to LONELY ARE THE BRAVE, one of my favorite flicks. The truck driver was none other than Carroll O'Conner, and of course the sheriff was Walter Matthau. Do you recall who played the female lead in that film? A great actress; still working today. Who was the helicopter pilot? Who was the famous writer who adapted the novel to the screenplay? Who was the one-armed man in the bar that Kirk Douglas fought? I think he went on to be the one-armed man on THE FUGITIVE. You got me on the horse's goddamn name.

Now as to STRANGERS WHEN WE MEET, yes Ms. Kim Novak was quite an armful. My favorite role of hers was in VERTIGO. I don't recall who architect Kirk Douglas was building the house for. I think Ernie Kovacs was the neighbor, but Walter Matthau was in it too, and his character's name was Felix, which brings us back to THE ODD COUPLE. By the way, what was the actress's name that played Kirk Douglas's wife in STRANGERS? Hey, who played Murray the Cop in ODD COUPLE? And by the way, concerning PICNIC, who played the Holden part on Broadway, and appeared in the film as well? What color was Kim Novak's hair in the film?

You hit a nerve because when anybody asks my name I reply, I'm Spartacus or sometimes because of my multible personality its Bond, James Bond. Yea, hefty George Kennedy has paid his dues and I remember his bit part roles in tv and then when he was the jailer to Jack Burns aka Kirk Douglas. I loved the scene when he escaped with his horse and the two met alone on the way up the mountain. George did a great job playing sadistic heavy's like that one in Lonely are the Brave. I know you know who played the sheriff but what was the name of Jack Burns horse and who played the truckdriver who accidently ran into Burns and his horse at the end?I messed up on Newmans competition and the held up movie but you must remember that I am in the latter stages of Alzeimers and have suffered from terminal dumbshitism and lackofnooky all my life!

You're right about Piper doing a better job than Kim Novak would have done. Kim Novak's specialty was the can't have lover like madge in picnic or maggie in strangers when we meet. William Holden did get her in the end but Kirk Douglas lost out in the end. Who was architect Kirk Douglas building the house for and who played the nosy neighbor and what was his name in strangers when we meet? He knew who was banging who in that Peyton Place neighborhood. I'm a Kim Novak freak, she not only was one of the sexiest women to grace the silver screen she also had the sexiest voice with that low murmur and enigmatic expression. I think her last movie was boy's night out? Too bad, but just like my life the beautiful ones go for the guys with the big bucks.

O'kay, one of my favorite shows the inimitable Phil Silvers whose first name was Ernest"Ernie" Bilko. A very young Rowdy Yates "Clint Eastwood" caught my attention along with a young Dick Van Dyke. I didn't see the episodes with Ed but I'm sure they were "a really big shoo". I believe the famous comedy writer was "the odd couple" Doc Simon? Paul Ford, a very very funny man with that hawk nose and baked potato body and oversized ears played a great Col. Hall. Remember in it's a mad mad mad world he played the confused air traffic controller hanging by the telephone outside of the control tower. One of Bilko's lackeys was Cpl Rocco "Harvey Lembeck". Oh how we need another Pvt Doberman in every organization. The mess Sgt, I think his name was Rizzo with the homly wife who hated Bilko for constantly bilking her husband is in every organization. That Sgt was Joe E. Ross, what characterdid he play opposite Fred Gwynn in the tv series about New York cops? My (*&^%$# is going screwy!

YOURE PREHISTORIC LIEGE, MICK
